Note about Special Town Meeting

On March 14, according to a memo from Town Manager John Mangiaratti to Department and Division Heads, the Town received a citizen’s petition asking for a “Special Town Meeting for a Non-Binding Resolution.” Town Manager John Mangiaratti explained, “Pursuant to G.L. c. 39, § 10, a Special Town meeting must be held no later than 45 days after receiving the request.” At its March 18 meeting, the Select Board set the Special Town Meeting for April 17. The Special Town Meeting warrant contains one item:

Voters will discuss and vote on the following non-binding resolution:

“We urge Town leaders, before recommending any major zoning proposal, to perform [and release for public review] detailed impact studies, which examine the maximum impact of such a proposed zoning proposal.”

The Special Town Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 pm at the Acton Boxborough High School auditorium. It is a separate meeting from the Annual Town Meeting and contains a single warrant article. Again, the Annual Town Meeting will be held on Monday, May 6 at 7 pm in the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Auditorium and Upper Gymnasium (All-Indoor Seating).
